Carmen Lynch is based in NYC and has performed on a string of late night shows including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and twice on The Late Show with David Letterman. She has also been featured on Inside Amy Schumer, The Good Wife, and recently starred in Carmen, a short film directed by Chloë Sevigny. Her comedy is laconic and world-weary but with a scorpion's sting in the tail of every joke.
Last year she performed a sold out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her show Lynched. She has travelled extensively performing for the troops in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as in Spanish-speaking countries doing stand-up in Spanish. Her album Dance Like You Don’t Need the Money was reviewed by The New York Times as “one of five to stream”.
“A force to be reckoned with…she’s surprising and quirkily original, setting out a contentious position before justifying it with perverse logic.” The Scotsman

Tez Ilyas was born and raised in Blackburn, Lancashire, and is of Pakistani heritage. His reputation for delivering smart, sharp and powerfully satirical content has fast established him as one of the most exciting rising stars in British Comedy.
In 2015 Ilyas achieved phenomenal success with his debut stand up hour TEZ Talks. A sell out run at the Soho Theatre and his own Radio 4 series based on the show followed, with a second series quickly being recommissioned. In 2016, his highly anticipated follow up show Made in Britain went on to sell out every single performance (including extra shows) at the Edinburgh Fringe and gained spectacular critical acclaim, with a smash hit nationwide tour in 2017. His third show Teztify once again delivered a spectacularly powerful, provocative and brilliantly funny hour of topical stand up, delivering to packed out audiences night after night.
Tez has since appeared on Live at the Apollo, The Last Leg, Mock the Week, Live From the BBC, Man Like Mobeen, Live from the Comedy Store, Kevin Hart’s Live from Montreal, The Now Show and many more. His 2018 Ted Talk Made in Britain – which explored Tez being both British and Muslim, was so successful that it began trending on Twitter

There is no one quite like Josie Long, but thank goodness there is one person that is precisely her. A comedy prodigy - she won the prestigious So You Think You're Funny competition aged just 17 years old - she has gone on to forge a unique path for herself, creating enormously uplifting stand-up comedy which blooms at the place where idiosyncratic storytelling, activism, politics, homemade props, delicate whimsy and brutal honest meet. It's unsurprising that her career is filled with awards and nominations - Edinburgh Fringe Best Newcomer winner and 3 nominations for best show - plus a trail of groundbreaking charities established, alternative reality tours and artfully made films.
Josie has performed stand-up around the world and her eighth solo stand-up show, Something Better, started in full swing in September 2016 with a sell-out two weeks at the Soho Theatre in London, followed by a two-week run at the Barrow Street Theatre New York. In 2017, Josie has continued her success on the road, headlining at San Francisco’s Sketchfest and RIOT LA in the US, The Melbourne International Comedy Festival in Australia, and highlighted by a sold-out show at the Duchess Theatre in London’s West End.
"Josie Long builds delightful comedy worlds." The Times
"Strikes an adroit balance between fun, moral outrage and indignant mockery of our hideous powers-that be." Guardian
"What great comedy can be. Inspired and inspiring." Metro
Sindhu Vee is most likely the tallest Indian woman you’ll ever meet. The daughter of Indian parents, a London-based mother, and bearer of half a PhD, it is rumoured but unverified, that Sindhu practised the dark arts of investment banking before making her parents proud by becoming a stand-up. She devotes all the time she has left over from raising her 3 children (and a bizarrely gigantic labrador) to comedy and suffering facial peels.
Since bursting onto the UK stand-up comedy scene a few years ago she has charmed and beguiled audiences with her sharp tongue, accurate home truths and totally unique life experience. It’s no surprise then that she was nominated for a Best Newcomer gong at the Edinburgh Fringe last year, nor that she’s popping up all over our TV screens on iconic shows such as Have I Got News For You and QI. She might still be new to stand-up, but she has the savvy and rootedness of a much-loved veteran. It’s no surprise that she’s already selling out her debut national tour, so best catch her at our wee gaff before she’s selling out huge theatres!

Sophie Willan makes bold, unapologetic work that is raucously funny and completely original. Her work is political to the core, but it doesn’t feel like it. With a razor sharp and totally authentic comic voice, she exudes confidence and charm.
In 2014 Sophie toured her first solo theatre show to over 70 venues across the UK, including a total sell out run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2015 her refreshing comic style took her to several competition finals including the Magners New Comedian of the Year, where she was crowned the winner. John-Luke Roberts is a comedian, actor and writer.
He has written for Have I Got News For You, Newzoids and Nevermind the Buzzcocks, and received the BBC Radio Comedy Writers Bursary in 2009.
John-Luke trained under Philippe Gaulier. He has created 6 solo shows for the Edinburgh Fringe between 2010 and 2018 which have all been critically acclaimed with Soho Theatre transfers. In our opinion there are at least three of these which absolutely should have been nominated for the main award, but it seems JLR is turning into a bit of a pre-Revenant Dicaprio when it comes to awards…
He is the co-founder of hugely successful Alternative Comedy Memorial Society, which he hosts with co-co-founder (also a co-founder) and nemesis Thom Tuck. The ACMS aims to celebrate Noble Failure, and give a home to the strange and different in live comedy. With this night as his comedic and intellectual headquarter, John-Luke has proven himself to be one of the most unique, versatile and joyously absurd acts of the past decade. Whether you love bizarre one-liners, oddball audience interaction or high-brow musings, you’ll love this one-of-a-kind act.

We've got to be a little bit coy and cryptic on this one, but safe to say our guest this week is one of the best observational comics to emerge in the UK over the past decade. He's a master at wringing every last drop of comedy from any subject, as well as having a lightning quick comedy mind, making him one of the most in demand and highly regarded comedians in the UK for both his live stand-up and TV work. After fast establishing himself on the live circuit a decade ago, supporting huge comic talent such as Stephen Merchant, Kevin Bridges, Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr, he has gone on to have two sell-out UK tours and two sell-outs runs at the Edinburgh Festival, as well as an Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer nomination.
Since then he has become a regular on our screens, making appearances on Live At The Apollo, Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You, Celebrity Mastermind, QI, Mock the Week and 8 Out of 10 Cats. If that weren’t enough, he has also received much praise hosting for Xfm and Radio 5’s Fighting Talk and been part of a team that has received multiple BAFTA nominations and RTS awards for a pretty damn famous show on one of the UK's biggest TV channels. Safe to say, seeing him up close in our wee club is an opportunity not to be missed!

“Donnelly has developed a style that is the antithesis of the loud, sweaty, manic comic so prevalent on the telly and live tours at the moment. The only black female comedian on the circuit in Canada, Dana's comedic style is both refreshing and irreverent, drawing her material from her diverse lifestyle, her gay friends and her crazy Jamaican family. She is also a veteran of the international circuit, having performed in over 40 different countries.
She moved to the UK in 2011, making her Edinburgh Fringe debut that same year. She was then nominated for best club comic in the 2012 Chortle Awards and soon after appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News. Dana continues to draw her material from her diverse lifestyle, from her gay friends to her crazy Jamaican family. She is a comic you definitely do not want to miss.

Named “the world’s most famous blagger” by The Daily Telegraph, untameable prankster and acclaimed character comedian Simon Brodkin has hit global headlines multiple times for his high-profile stunts. Most famously he handed Prime Minister Theresa May a P45 form during her keynote speech at the Conservative Party Conference and showered disgraced FIFA president Sepp Blatter with hundreds of dollar bills in bribe payments “for the North Korea 2026 World Cup bid”.
Of his many characters, Simon is best known for his irrepressible, south London wide boy Lee Nelson. With each of his Lee Nelson tours (Serious Joker, Suited & Booted, Lee Nelson’s Well Good Tour and Lee Nelson Live) being extended twice or more.
In 2017, Channel 4 show Britain’s Greatest Hoaxer followed Simon as he planned and executed three huge stunts. Simon surrounded US President Donald Trump, at the opening one of his golf courses, with 60 swastika-emblazoned golf balls, “as part of the new Trump Golfing range”. He attached a 25-foot sign to the side of shamed former BHS owner Sir Philip Green’s £100m superyacht, renaming it the ‘BHS Destroyer’. And Simon went on Britain’s Got Talent, incognito, as the ultra-orthodox Jewish rapper Steven Goldblatt (aka ‘The Rapping Rabbi’), fooling Simon Cowell and the other judges to win four ‘yeses’. It wasn’t his first run-in with Cowell. Simon had previously managed to get on to the X Factor stage during a live show, singing along “as the ninth member” of the boyband Stereo Kicks.
Simon is also the writer, star and creator of two series of BBC Three’s ratings smash Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show and sketch series Lee Nelson’s Well Funny People, introducing the nation to a plethora of brilliant new characters. He also made the 90-min special Jason Bent’s World Cup’s Best Ever Goals, Ever! (BBC Three). Lee has appeared multiple times on BBC One’s Live At The Apollo, as guest and host.

BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT RUNNER-UP 2018
Robert White is the only gay, Aspergic, quarter-Welsh comic on the British comedy circuit. Known for his brilliant timing and performance style, Robert’s chaotic stage presence, improvisational skills and delivery won him the 2010 Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality. In the same year, he wrote one of Dave’s Top Ten Jokes of The Fringe.
Robert shot into the mainstream this year when he was runner-up on UK’s biggest television talent competition, Britain's Got Talent. His performances were typically anarchic but hilarious. His madcap stage presence, improvised songs and unique approach to comedy won over the judges, audience and viewers at home from the very first episode of the show all the way through to the final.
“Robert White killed with this show, matching an amazing presence to clever jokes and pitch-perfect delivery’ ’Just brilliant.” ★★★★ Chortle
“Get him on Shooting Stars - Robert White’s show is a jaw-dropping riot…the mix of lewd innuendo, cheesy jokes, music hall songs played on a knackered keyboard and sound-effects games makes for a side-splitting hour.” ★★★★ The List

Alice is one of the sharpest-tongued rising stars in global comedy. Already an established voice in her native Australia she has come to greater prominence in the UK as one of the new generation of comics entrusted to take up the reins of John Oliver's co-presenter seat. Her shows have played to packed out houses in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, New Zealand, London and the Edinburgh Fringe, whilst she has also appeared on Radio 4 and given her own very funny and touching Ted Talk.
“There’s something almost literary about Alice Fraser’s incisive, dextrous hour of compelling storytelling...she could give Daniel Kitson a run for his money." Chortle
“Her stand-up is poignant and gut-punchingly funny...Alice Fraser’s a total star in her own right." ★★★★★ The Herald Sun
Fearless writing and lighting fast wit make Fern an exceptional comedian, one who has been building up a remarkable body of work over the past few years. Prior to entering comedy Fern was a Guardian award-nominated journalist and has also spoken about topical issues on Radio’s 4’s The Today Programme. She is similarly uncompromising in her material, slaughtering holy cows with little care for audience sensibilities or insufferable fools. Few acts have the scalpel-like way with an image or analogy as Fern, and it's little wonder that she's become a regular on BBC Radio 4's 'The Now Show', as well as appearing on '8 Out of 10 Cats', 'Live at The Comedy Store' and 'Russell Howard's Stand-up Central'.
"Appealingly acidic… a great comic sensibility with moments of sparkling verve." The Guardian
"Solid gold material on top of a beautifully brutal turn of phrase." Fest
"Bold, whip-smart and unabashedly honest” ★★★★ The Herald

MAT RICARDO: MAT RICARDO VS THE WORLD
For the last three decades, Mat Ricardo has carved out a living travelling around the world performing tricks – feats of dexterity, juggling, balance and associated manipulative miscellanea. While his feet have trod the boards of theatres, the shiny floors of TV studios and the cobblestones of piazzas, his hands have pulled tablecloths off and back onto tables, flipped hats, bounced balls, spun plates, and done all manner of crowd-pleasing, jaw-dropping malarkey.
But he has a problem. In thirty years of constantly seeking unique, original ways to display his deft ingenuity, he thinks he might have done everything. He's run out of tricks to learn. So, he's doing something stupid.
Mat Ricardo is officially challenging everyone in the world to try to come up with tricks that they think he can't learn.
Anyone, anywhere, can tweet him a challenge and he'll pick the most interesting ones, and then devote the next year of his life to attempting to learn them well enough to perform in front of a live audience, in his new one-man show.
